My Journey

You’re so selfish!

That was one of the many insults Vincent would throw at me regularly…”You’re so selfish!”

In his opinion:

It was selfish of me to change the temperature in the house.

It was selfish of me to leave the light on in the kitchen.

It was selfish of me want to get a couple’s costume for Halloween.

It was selfish of me to buy Whole Milk instead of the 2% Milk he preferred.

It was selfish of me to use the oven to cook a Salmon dinner when I should have used the toaster oven which uses less electricity.

It was selfish of me to make fattening foods for dinner.

It was selfish of me to leave dishes in the sink.

It was selfish of me to leave clothes I. The dryer too long.

It was selfish of me to spend so much time and affection on my son instead of Vincent.

Now I know that Vincent has a warped sense of reality, being a narcissist and an anti-social personality. But at the time, it was just too draining to deal with the insanity of his accusations that I just allowed him to beat me down.

If you’re dealing with these types of insane accusations that make no sense to you, trust your gut. The narcissist will tell you that the sky is pink until you start to believe them. Don’t get to that place. Don’t believe the things they project onto you. You are not selfish!

I am a mother of 6 and a wife to the most amazing husband ever. After years of being in an abusive relationship, I have escaped and moved on and figured out that life doesn't have to be so tough. There is hope. And there is life and love and happiness after abuse.
